Bogdan is a volunteer at the “Support for Diabetes” medical association, in charge of researching and implementing patient developed technology and devices for better management of type 1 diabetes in children, under the medical supervision of Dr. Mihaela Vlaiculescu, M.D., one of the top diabetologists in Romania. He’s also one of the founders of the virtual Facebook community named “Nightscout Romania”.
In 2014, right after his son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, he started to learn everything ever posted on Internet about this condition and, with the help of a friend, found out about the ”Nightscout system”. Nightscout is a parents driven project aiming to better managing diabetes by using Continuous Glucose Monitoring systems publicly available on the medical market, hacking these devices and applying mathematical science to better understand the glycemic data obtained from them.
Bogdan was also a part of the team that developed the “Doctor’s dashboard”, a project that is used as a doctor’s overview of real-time blood-glucose and treatments data of MD Mihaela Vlaiculescu’s little patients. The project, named “Telemedicine and continuous glucose monitoring in paediatric type 1 diabetes care”, was a great success when it was presented at the 2016’s European Association for the Study of Diabetes, held in Munich.
Implementing these fantastic capabilities of the Nightscout system for children in Romania and making the tools available for both parents and diabetologists was, since then, Bogdan’s main interest in this area.
