Irina is a midwife living in Bucharest who also advocates for women, children and midwives.
She recognized the need for a better approach for a normal, adequate care for pregnant women and babies in Romania and since she had no rest. To that end, she founded the Association for Natural Birth and Breastfeeding in 2011 and she is actively working to improve conditions and practices to provide better care for pregnant women and newborns.
The alarming number of teenage girls that give birth in Romania in correlation to the lack of sexual education represent major concerns for midwives. They are dedicated to change these statistics, through education and support and also dismantling misperceptions related to sex and shaming.
